Getting Started at Keyano: An Orientation for Sessional Instructors

This two-evening online training session is designed to help sessional instructors start their semester successfully by learning Keyano's systems and procedures, key technologies, and teaching and learning strategies. By the end of the two evening sessions, you will be able to:

  • Syllabus: Assess and finalize your course syllabus using a provided course outline and syllabus template
  • Moodle: Receive, review, and adapt your course Moodle site, including adding and editing content, evaluating for usability, and adding and editing grades in Gradebook
  • Instruction: Review strategies to engage learners, including community building methods for the first day or week of class, active learning and classroom assessment techniques, and experiential learning models
  • Assessment and Academic Misconduct: review assessment tools like rubrics, feedback templates, and Moodle quizzes, describe common types of academic misconduct, create AI course policies, recognize common student uses of AI, and identify when and how to involve the Academic Integrity Office
  • Keyano Support Areas: Review when and how to access Keyano support systems and departments like PowerCampus, ITS, CTL, Library, Academic Integrity, Accessibility and Accommodations, and the Academic Success Centre
